Wash. AG joins suit against S&P

Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson has joined a group of state attorneys general and the U.S. Dept. of Justice in filing suit against Standard & Poor’s. The group alleges the credit rating agency misled investors with regard to structured finance securities backed by subprime mortgages that were at the center of the national financial crisis.

Ecology fines Kent waste processing facility

Burlington Environmental once again faces a penalty because of its Kent location. The Department of Ecology announced today that it has fined Burlington Environmental LLC $282,000 for 16 violations of requirements for dangerous waste handling at the company's facility in Kent. The company has paid $316,000 in six previous Ecology penalties at the Kent-site.
