	JBLM's Cascade School Age Center gets gold certification The Cascade School Age Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord has achieved LEED Gold certification, making it the first facility on base to reach U.S. Green Building Council Gold designation. While the government set a project target of LEED Silver, the Berschauer Phillips Design Team, which included BCRA, collaborated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reach LEED Gold within the existing project budget and schedule. 	Emergency Management partners with Wounded Warrior pilot project In March, injured service members transitioning out of the military will begin internship programs within the Department of Emergency Management and other partner agencies in a first-of-its-kind venture. The Wounded Warrior Transition Project will be piloted in Pierce County with the intent of developing it for wounded soldiers nationwide.	January 2011
	State receives $4.8 million to help workers relocated under BRAC find jobs Washington State Employment Security Department has received $4.8 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to help those relocated to Joint Base Lewis-McChord from closed military bases find new employment. The National Emergency Grant will assist about 825 military spouses and civilian defense workers impacted by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure action that closed military bases nationwide and resulted in the creation of JBLM in 2010. The majority of those affected are spouses who have left jobs to follow military members assigned to JBLM.	January 2011
	CFC sets record for fundraising Although their families have faced multiple deployments, and they have come home to a very tough economy, local military personnel and their federal counterparts have led the local Combined Federal Campaign to an all-time high charitable fundraising record in 2010, according to Sean Armentrout, the local CFC manager. The local CFC campaign, administered by United Way, raised more than $1.4 million from more than 11,000 donors. This exceeds the previous record amount raised by nearly $110,000. United Way of Pierce County manages the local campaign in Pierce, Thurston and Lewis counties.	December 2010
	JBLM expected to significantly boost area economy during next 5 years Unprecedented growth at Joint Base Lewis-McChord during the first decade of 21st century, coupled with projected future growth during the next five years, will result in unanticipated economic opportunities for the South Puget Sound region. Several top-tier findings of the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Growth Coordination Plan, which has been a year in the making, bode well for the local economy in Thurston and Pierce counties.	December 2010

	People on the Move Linda Ishem has joined the Pierce County Library System's board of trustees. She is an assistant professor at the University of Washington Tacoma's Urban Studies Program. Before working for the university, she held posts with Pierce County's Department of Community Services, as the director, and prior to that as a manager and an acting assistant director with the Washington State Department of Community Development. Michael Lantz has received Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber's 32nd annual John H. Anderson Military Citizen of the Year Award. He is the first sergeant for the 361st Recruiting Squadron, JBLM-McChord Field.	November 2010

	JBLM to open new gate soon A new location for personnel to enter Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) could help ease congestion on northbound Interstate 5 from Lacey through DuPont as early as next week. State Department of Transportation officials are working with the military base, Federal Highways Administration and local agencies to prepare the additional base entrance at Mounts Road in Nisqually to open next week.
