Tax credit available for hiring veterans

Washington employers could reduce their 2012 federal taxes by up to $9,600 for each eligible military veteran they hire before the end of this year. The Work Opportunity Tax Credit provides an incentive for employers to hire disadvantaged veterans who fall into at least one of five categories. These include veterans who have been unemployed within the past year, received public assistance in the past 15 months or have a service-related disability.

Boeing receives 10th WGS Satellite order from Air Force

Boeing has received a $338.7 million contract modification from the U.S. Air Force to produce and launch a 10th Wideband Global SATCOM satellite. The authorization includes production, launch site activities, initial orbital operations and checkout.

Pierce County Dental Society has added four members. David Y. Kim DDS of Fife, Alison Polwarth DDS of Lakewood and Syeda Bakhtawar DMD of Puyallup each practice general dentistry. Daniel Chong DDS is practicing prosthodontics at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. They all also are members of the Washington State Dental Association and the American Dental Association.

WorkSource website connects veterans and employers

The state Employment Security Department has added new features to the WorkSource website that will make it easier for employers and veterans to find each other.The changes are part of an effort to implement a 2011 state law that granted legal protection to private-sector employers who want to give military veterans a preference in their hiring decisions. Now, job-seeking veterans and eligible spouses who post their résumés on can check a box that makes their military status visible to employers who want to hire veterans. When employers search the site for job candidates, they can search for veterans’ résumés.

eMagin receives subcontract for night vision goggle

eMagin Corp.has received a subcontract from ITT Exelis Corp. for initial production volumes of the display beam combiner assembly for the Spiral Enhanced Night Vision Goggle for the U.S. Army, which includes eMagin’s OLED-XL full color microdisplays. The total contract award is valued at about $49.5 million.

Two VA employees arrested for fraud scheme

Two Veterans Affairs employees were arrested at their workplace today following an investigation of more than $100,000 in fraudulent claims in a program designed to reimburse veterans for travel to their medical appointments, according to U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.
