Washington State Department of Natural Resources will bring its statewide 50th anniversary celebration to Lewis County Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Bethel Church, 132 Kirkland Rd., Chehalis, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Weyerhaeuser announces potential buyer for pulp mill

Weyerhaeuser Co. will discuss the purchase of the the Cosmopolis Pulp Mill in Aberdeen with Evergreen Pulp and Grays Harbor Public Utility District. Weyerhaeuser announced plans to close the pulp mill in 2005.

Purchase discussions announced in 2007 with Charlestown Investments were not completed.

New terminal development planned

Port of Tacoma has entered into a Memorandum of Intent with the Puyallup Tribe, Marine View Ventures and SSA Marine to built a new terminal development on the Blair-Hylebos Peninsula. Marine View Ventures is the economic development arm of the Puyallup Tribe.

Senate passes job, economic development bills

The state Senate continued its focus on making jobs and economic development a high priority last night by passing several bills aimed at growing the job market and providing workers with the skills and training they need to be competitive.

State exports perform well in 2007

State exports experienced a 24.84 percent increase in 2007 compared to 2006, more than double the national export growth figure of 12.11 percent, according to World Trade Center Tacoma.

Washington ranks fourth nationally in exports behind Texas, California and New York; however, Washington posted a higher export growth rate than any other state.

Port of Olympia to act on cleanup promise

Port of Olympia is prepared to enter the formal cleanup process for the East Bay redevelopment through an Agreed Order with the state Department of Ecology. The port has been working with department through the Voluntary Cleanup Program since 2006.

The state Department of Natural Resources will bring its statewide 50th anniversary celebration to Lewis County on Tuesday between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Bethel Church, located 132 Kirkland Rd. in Chehalis. Commissioner of Public Lands Doug Sutherland and executive managers will join Region Manager Eric Schroff and his team in welcoming guests to the informal public event.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, located at 3510 Grandview Street in Gig Harbor. The meeting will focus on organizational matters.

Boeing delivers new 777 to The Netherlands

The Boeing Co. and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are celebrating the delivery of the airline's first 777-300ER -- Extended Range. The airplane joined KLM's fleet of 15 Boeing 777-200ERs, arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol airport yesterday.
