Weyerhaeuser announces potential buyer for pulp mill

Weyerhaeuser Co. will discuss the purchase of the the Cosmopolis Pulp Mill in Aberdeen with Evergreen Pulp and Grays Harbor Public Utility District. Weyerhaeuser announced plans to close the pulp mill in 2005.

Purchase discussions announced in 2007 with Charlestown Investments were not completed.

Belco to expand operations

Belco Forest Products will expand soon with 16 new jobs, bringing its total employment in Shelton to 61, announced Matt Matayoshi, executive director of Mason County Economic Development Council.

ACORN, Countrywide partner

Washington members of the ACORN Housing Corp. announced an agreement with Countrywide Financial Corp. this afternoon that increases homeowner protections for subprime borrowers who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments.

Home prices edge up in Puget Sound

Prices for homes that sold last month in Western Washington edged up slightly from a year ago, according to new figures from Northwest Multiple Listing Service. In its recap of January activity, the MLS reported inventory, while still plentiful, reached its lowest level since April 2007.
