Officials to extend disaster outreach

Federal disaster officials notified the state Department of Social and Health Services this week that it would extend funding for Disaster Outreach Services, a program aimed at providing emotional support, information and service referrals to Southwest Washington residents hit hardest by last December's windstorm and flooding.

Tax collections weakened in January

Tax payments made to the state were considerably weaker last month, according to a Revenue Collection Report released this week by the state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council. Collections between Jan. 11 and Feb. 10 were $1.25 billion, or 2.8 percent less than expected.

Home prices edge up in Puget Sound

Prices for homes that sold last month in Western Washington edged up slightly from a year ago, according to new figures from Northwest Multiple Listing Service. In its recap of January activity, the MLS reported inventory, while still plentiful, reached its lowest level since April 2007.
