Hylebos Bridge re-opens today

The Hylebos Bridge, which spans the Hylebos Waterway on the east side of the Tacoma Tideflats, will re-open May 21. The rehabilitation work to return the bridge to its regular operating conditions is complete.

Alaska Airlines wins approval for Portland-D.C. service

Alaska Airlines will begin offering a daily nonstop flight between Portland and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport by Sept. 8, following U.S. Department of Transportation approval of the carrier's application to fly the new route.

BoltBus launching Seattle-based service

BoltBus will begin non-stop service between Seattle and Vancouver on May 31 and is launching its first West Coast service expansion between Seattle and Portland on Thursday.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge tolls almost set

Those interested in toll rates for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge will have one more opportunity to voice their opinions May 21 in Gig Harbor. The Washington State Transportation Commission will hold the final rate hearing starting at 6 p.m. at Gig Harbor City Hall, 3510 Grandview Street, and will take action immediately afterward to adopt new toll rates for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Final paving of Yelm High begins Friday

Final paving of Yelm Highway from Rich Road to Boulevard Road is scheduled for May 11 and 14, weather permitting. The south side of Yelm Highway will be paved on Friday, the north side on Monday, and side roads on Tuesday.

Railroad moving closer to cleanup at Parkwater Railyard

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and the state Department of Ecology are entering into a legal agreement for cleaning up the contaminated BNSF Parkwater Railyard on East Trent Avenue in Spokane. The public has until the end of May to review the draft consent decree that will ensure that formal cleanup plans are followed.

Sound Transit is seeking volunteers to help the agency plan, build and operate the regional mass transit system. The agency has an immediate opening on the Citizen Oversight Panel and encourages interested individuals from South King and Pierce county subareas, as well as other areas in the region, to apply.

WSDOT awards contract for I-5 congestion relief in Centralia

Interstate 5 drivers are one step closer to faster, safer trips through north Lewis County. The Washington State Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for the first stage of major improvements between Mellen Street and Blakeslee Junction in Centralia.
