SBA sends valentine to small businesses

The Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration felt it proper to give Washington's small business community a Valentine's Day of sorts by pointing out the top 10 reasons to appreciate entrepreneurs in the state:

Tax collections weakened in January

Tax payments made to the state were considerably weaker last month, according to a Revenue Collection Report released this week by the state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council. Collections between Jan. 11 and Feb. 10 were $1.25 billion, or 2.8 percent less than expected.

Scott Carson, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, told a Tacoma audience last night that "these are the 'good old days' that we will be looking back on. "And I look forward to tomorrow, so I can more enjoy them."

Chambers Bay to host U.S. Open

The United States Golf Association announced today at its annual meeting in Houston that the U.S. Open will be held at Pierce County's Chambers Bay golf course in 2015. It will be the first Open held in the Pacific Northwest. The USGA also awarded the 2010 U.S. Amateur to Chambers Bay.

Home prices edge up in Puget Sound

Prices for homes that sold last month in Western Washington edged up slightly from a year ago, according to new figures from Northwest Multiple Listing Service. In its recap of January activity, the MLS reported inventory, while still plentiful, reached its lowest level since April 2007.
