Thurston Chamber marks successes

Several hundred business and community leaders met today to celebrate Thurston County Chamber's successes this past year. Not only has the chamber added two major employers - Cabella's and Great Wolf Lodge - to its membership rolls, it also has increased chamber revenue to more than $1.1 million.

Local unemployment rates up in March

Tacoma's unemployment rate rose from 5.6 percent in February to 5.9 percent in March and 1.2 percent during the year, according to statistics released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

State program offers assistance for downtown revitalization

The state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development's Main Street program is now accepting applications from organizations seeking downtown revitalization assistance at its "Main Street" designation level, the highest level of support and services available in a three-tier system. The state's Main Street Tier System Network also includes Affiliate and Start-Up designations.

Schools selected for solar grants

Five local schools will see their vision of solar power become a reality thanks to $100,000 in grants announced today by Puget Sound Energy. The grants, up to $25,000 each, will provide for the installation of a technology that converts light directly into electricity, as well as educational tools enabling students to monitor the systems and learn about solar power.
