Franciscan receives grant to purchase bladder scanners

The Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound has awarded a $30,172 grant to Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care. The grant will pay for two Verathon bladder scanners that will benefit hospice patients. The scanners will prevent unnecessary catheterizations, decreasing hospice patients’ discomfort and medical complications, and saving time and money. Bladder scans also can detect bladder obstructions, enabling improved clinical care planning for optimal treatment and quality of life.

Day Island sewer pipe to be replaced

Following recent leaks in the Day Island sewer force main and subsequent spot inspections, Pierce County will replace the pipe to prevent future leakage. Design work on the replacement pipe will begin immediately and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
