Jun. 7, 2010 at 1:55pm 53 lawmakers receive small business’ highest honorThe National Federation of Independent Business has selected 53 Washington state legislators to receive its Guardian of Small Business Awards. Guardian award percentages were based on votes taken on 10 bills in the Senate and 12 bills in the House during the 2009-10 session of the state legislature. To qualify as a Guardian, legislators must have achieved an 80 percent, pro-small business voting record. Guardian Award-winning senators included South Sound Sen. Mike Carrell (Lakewood). South Sound Guardian Award-winning representatives included Gary Alexander (Olympia), Richard DeBolt (Chehalis), Dan Roach (Bonney Lake), Bruce Dammeier (Puyallup) and Skip Priest (Federal Way). Sen. Janéa Holmquist (Moses Lake) and Rep. Joel Kretz (Wauconda) were named "Outstanding Legislators" of the 2009-10 session.
