NWMS honored for work in clinical trials

Apr 26, 2012 - 09:02 AM

Northwest Medical Specialties was one of only six community oncology practices in the country to be recognized by the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology for work in improving cancer care through clinical trials programs.

Of the 1.3 million people who will be diagnosed with cancer this year, only 3 percent to 5 percent will participate in cancer clinical trials. In 2011, NWMS enrolled a higher than national average number of patients in clinical trials, giving patients the opportunity to receive cutting-edge cancer therapies otherwise unavailable.

NWMS currently has more than 25 ongoing clinical trials in different cancer types, including hematology, breast, lung, solid tumors and colon. NWMS provides access to clinical trials at each of its eight locations, including Tacoma, Puyallup, Federal Way, Gig Harbor, Bonney Lake, Enumclaw, Lakewood and Silverdale.
