‘Making a difference for others’ motivates

Apr 3, 2017 - 04:23 PM

When asked to identify a significant benchmark in her career, Lisa Woods, Business/Finance manager for Tacoma (city) Venues & Events Department, identifies her work group’s qualification for $21 million in capital improvement funds to bring Tacoma Dome up to modern standards. Not her own world, but her employer’s work.

That commitment to mission illustrates why she became a finalist in 2017 South Sound Financial Executives of the Year.

“I chose financial management because I like the enterprise aspect of what I do – not just the numbers,” Woods explains, “but building relationships and having an opportunity to continually assess and make things better.”

This single mother of four kids has a PLU business degree and two master’s degrees in her toolbox, powering her passion about leadership and teaching others, especially the next generation. Woods is also a member of the City’s Equity Team and facilitates training of staff city-wide, has been active in Toastmaster International, successfully operated a Mary Kay career and is a licensed minister.

You can meet Lisa Woods and the other 13 finalists for South Sound Financial Executives of the Year on Wednesday, April 26, for a luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Historic 1625 Tacoma Place. Tickets are available here.
