Aug 22, 2011 - 09:32 AM
Tacoma City Council is scheduled to receive a briefing tomorrow from Washington State Department of Ecology staff about the Tacoma Smelter Plume Cleanup Plan, which will be released later this year.

The plan's four main components are a proposed residential Sampling and Remediation Program, continuing the Soil Safety Program, ongoing education and outreach, and encouraging sampling and cleanup during development. City staff also will present a schedule of key dates for the review and adoption of the update to the Shoreline Master Program. Additionally, there will be a review of the city's debt service by funding source and year, potential funds available from the 2009 and 2010 LTGO bond issues and current capital project requests. And Interim City Manager Rey Arellano will share information about a three part series of topics related to the City's economic development strategy.

The Council will not take public comment during the noon study session in the Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., Room 16. Audio from the session will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and on

Other items the council is scheduled to consider include:

• A resolution that would create a Medical Cannabis Task Force and authorize the mayor to appoint members and designate a chair.

• A resolution that would authorize a Multi-Family Housing Eight-Year Limited Property Tax Exemption Agreement with TMOB LLC, for the development of 177 new market-rate, rental housing units at 4275 S. Pine St.
