South Sound unemployment rates inch lower in July

Jobless rates fell throughout the South Sound during July compared to a month earlier, according to the latest numbers from the state Employment Security Department.

Unemployment in Mason County fell from 10.6 percent during June to 10.3 percent last month. The jobless rate in Lewis County fell from 12.8 percent to 12.6 percent. Pierce County unemployment dropped from 9.7 percent to 9.6 percent and Thurston County saw a decline from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment held steady during July at 9.3 percent.
