Aug 31, 2017 - 02:55 PM

Discount Tire of Scottsdale, Ariz., has been fined $100,000 by Washington’s state Insurance Commissioner for selling 1.4 million tire warranties without being authorized in this state.

Washington consumers paid $32.2 million for the proprietary tire insurance policies from January 2014 until June 2016.

Dealers Alliance Corp. in Columbus, Ohio, is facing a $150,000 fine for selling nearly 57,000 service contracts to consumers in the state between August 2012 and February 2016 without being authorized by state regulators. The company also failed to report some of those premiums and did not notify state officials about its change of address.

Farmers Insurance Co. of Washington, Dental Health Services, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Premera Blue Cross and Delta Dental of Washington each received lesser fines for various timing and administrative infractions.
