Gig Harbor firm on edg3 FUND list

Aug 17, 2017 - 05:14 PM

A frozen meal company said to be “like no other” and based near Tacoma Narrows Airport in Gig Harbor is a semi-finalist for 2017 Kitsap Bank's small business competition called edg3 FUND.

Along with 15 other young and start-up enterprises spread across Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam counties, KnifeForkSpoon will be competing to win $20,000 in capital to move the business toward greater growth and contribution to its community.

The Gig Harbor company is classified by some as a grocery store, but it goes beyond that to use all real food ingredients to make meals customized to the taste of its buyers, who take the kits home for preparation and cooking. Founder Abbie Cates opened the firm at the beginning of this year and says she will use the prize money to upgrade her packaging, establish a high school scholarship and grow her business.

The bank received numerous applications from entrepreneurs throughout Western Washington in industries ranging from food/beverages, to technology, recreation, agriculture and more in this third year of the competition.

This link will show the complete list of 2017 edg3 FUND semi-finalists.

“All of these innovative and hardworking business people are doing great things to promote a sustainable community,” statea Tony George, Kitsap Bank’s president/COO, “and we were honored that they invested their time and effort to join our contest.”

The top 16 companies will now move on to the semi-final round, which includes a public vote starting in mid-September. Results of that online vote will help determine which will be the top five finalists, which will compete in a live competition Nov. 16 in Bremerton. An independent panel of judges will choose the ultimate winner for the $20,000 prize.

The bank will also award an additional $5,000 cash prize to one business among the semi-finalists that best embodies the spirit of community.
