The South Sound's strong taxable retail sales results in the first quarter, illustrated in maps provided by the Washington State Department of Revenue:

Of the top 10 most populated counties in the state, Pierce ranked second in taxable retail sales percentage increase. Pierce saw a taxable retail sales climb of $3.6 billion, a 7.6 percent bump from last year. Only Whatcom county among the state’s most populous saw a higher (8.8 percent) increase.

Tacoma, likewise, saw the second largest increase of the state’s most populous cities, trailing only Bellevue at 8.7 and 9.1 percent, respectively.
