Tacoma to feature on C-SPAN this weekend
Tacoma will take center stage on C-SPAN this weekend, with the City of Destiny to be featured as part of the 2017 C-SPAN Cities Tour.
The features will air on the cable network’s non-fiction book channel BookTV (on C-SPAN2) and history channel American History TV (on C-SPAN 3). Among the literary features will be an interview with Tacoma’s first African-American mayor, Harold Moss. Another is a discussion with local author Tanya Erzen, who will share the history of faith-based programs in prison and the role religion plays in the U.S. prison system.
Tacoma’s history will also be in the spotlight, including a talk with historian Michael Sullivan about the Tacoma Narrow Bridge’s collapse into Puget Sound in 1940. Also featured will be University of Puget Sound Professor Andrew Gomez, who will discuss Tacoma’s Chinese Expulsion in 1885.
Other highlights include literary and historical talks on Tacoma’s Eastern Railroad, the former anarchist colony of Home in Puget Sound, Nisqually Chief Leschi and more.
