Unemployment numbers still good
Jobless rates in South Sound counties continue to be a bit higher than statewide and national numbers, but are generally seen in positive light for July.
The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics this week pegged the unemployment rate in greater Tacoma at 5.0 percent, one-tenth below the June report and 1.4 percent improved over a year ago.
Greater Olympia’s jobless rate at 4.7 percent last month was actually up just a tick – the only reported increase for July in the five-county market.
Mason County and Shelton improved two-tenths to 5.9 percent and Lewis County remained at 6.0 percent, a full two points better than in July 2016.
Statewide, Washington’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.4 percent. The U.S. as a whole is showing 4.3 percent when seasonally adjusted in July.
