UPS makes list of 'best value' colleges
The University of Puget Sound is the 97th best value for a private liberal arts college, according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s 2016 list of “Top 300 Best College Values.”
The list looks at 1,200 schools and ranks them based on a combination of outstanding academics and affordable cost. Quality measures include admission rate, the percentage of students who return for sophomore year, the student-faculty ratio and the four-year graduation rate. Cost criteria includes sticker price, financial aid and average debt at graduation.
While the sticker price at UPS is fairly high on its face, it offers a $23,410 average need-based aid and $14,886 average in non-need based aid. The average debt at graduation is $27,776 and the “salary yardstick” is $51,500
Only one other college in Washington made the list — Whitman College in Walla Walla at No. 28.
