‘Amazing’ selling season meant long hours

Dec 26, 2017 - 03:49 PM

Amazing associates at Amazon fulfillment centers in DuPont, Sumner and Kent were part of the nationwide team to pick, pack and ship more than one million customer packages in a single day last week.

The gigantic retailer’s peak day for customer fulfillment was one week ago Tuesday, Dec. 19, when more than 6,000 trailers and 32 Amazon Air planes helped get holiday orders delivered.

Beyond its own inventory stock, more than one billion items were ordered through Amazon from small businesses and entrepreneurs worldwide. In just the five days from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, nearly 140 million items were ordered through this channel.

“Thank you to the millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of Amazon employees all around the world who made this holiday better than ever,” says Jeff Wilke, CEO for Worldwide Consumer at the big A headquarters in Seattle. “We look forward to another great year ahead.”

But first, let those South Sound associates put their feet up for at least a partial day.
