Narrows Marina finishes rebuild of boat storage facility

Dec 14, 2017 - 06:45 PM

Tacoma’s Narrows Marina has finished the rebuild of the Open Bay Boat Storage Facility, which needed restoration after a 2015 fire.

The new boat storage facility has a full fire sprinkler system and also includes two new bathrooms, one shower, a new fish cleaning station, and 45 parking stalls, each with a large storage cabinet, power outlet and overhead light.

Tenants will now have access to an electric pallet jack to move their boats with more ease. A 300-foot section of creosote pilings has also been replaced. The aging bulkhead was replaced with a more environmentally friendly concrete and steel bulkhead and a new boat sling was added.

Additionally, the facility’s old gasoline/diesel underground storage tanks were replaced by double-walled fiberglass tanks. During the time of the replacement, the marina chose to remove contaminated soil from a former UST site. The Marina was issued a ‘no further action’ letter from the Washington State Department of Ecology stating that site met cleanup standards, and received a site closure determination from the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.
