WSECU teams up with Hands On Children's Museum
Marcus Glasper, chair of the WSECU board, speaks at the Hands On Children's Museum in Olympia to kick off a new educational program.
WSECU — the hometown headquartered credit union — presented a $1 million gift to Olympia's award-winning Hands On Children's Museum today to launch a new program for early learning throughout the South Sound.
The pledge of $225,000 annually for the next five years will allow expansion of mobile educational programs, increase subsidized field trips for schools serving low-income students and allow free admission to families receiving state basic food assistance.
"Education is at the center of our charitable activities," said Marcus Glasper, chair of the WSECU board. "We can't think of a better way to launch our 60th anniversary celebration."
Executive Director Patty Belmonte added, "The launch of the new 'Inspired Learning for All' initiative is an exciting next step in the museum's growth" since its new facility opened four years ago.
WSECU is a not-for-profit credit union with more than 250,000 members statewide, about 80- to 100,000 of them residing in Thurston County. It commits 4 percent of its annual earnings back into the communities it serves.
