Aeromexico receives first of many Boeing 737 MAX jets
The first of up to 90 737 MAX airplanes was delivered to Aeromexico in Mexico City on Feb. 27. Aeromexico will use the MAX jets to add routes and extra flights all over North and South America. The jets are more fuel-efficient and have a longer range than the airline’s current fleet.
The order for up to 90 MAX airplanes for Aeromexico was placed in 2012. It includes the MAX 8 and the MAX 9, which is larger. The jets will allow the airline to increase flight distances to about 3,550 nautical miles (6,570 kilometers).
"We are very proud to be one of the first airlines in Latin America operating this aircraft, which allows us to provide operational efficiencies that translate into multiple benefits for our clients, both in terms of their experience on-board and the options they have to reach their destination," Aeromexico CEO Andrés Conesa said in a statement.
Vice President of Latin America Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes Ricardo Cavero also weighed in on the accomplishment.
"We are honored to expand our partnership with Aeromexico and welcome them to the 737 MAX family," Cavero said. "The 737 MAX will provide Aeromexico with unmatched reliability, fuel efficiency and a premium on-board experience for its passengers."
Aeromexico is not the only customer for the 737 MAX. The popular jet is the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history, with more than 4,300 orders from 93 buyers all over the globe.
