New senior housing in Tacoma's stadium district

Feb 1, 2018 - 06:25 PM

The Rush Companies has announced new details on a new senior housing development in Tacoma’s Stadium District.

The project will be located on a 35,000-square-foot site previously occupied by the Tacoma Bible Presbyterian Church. The building was originally constructed in 1922 as a Scottish Rite Temple, but was occupied by the TBPC for 79 years from 1937 until May 2016, when an electrical fire severely damaged the building. Following the fire, the building sat vacant until The Rush Companies purchased it in September 2017 and then demolished it in November 2017 to make way for the new senior housing development.

The new project will feature 120 to 156 units on six residential levels with a mix of independent, assisted living and memory care apartments. The plans will also include a rooftop garden, indoor and outdoor dining areas, outdoor patios, common areas and one level of underground parking.

According to The Rush Companies President Matt Smith, “demand for senior housing in the primary market area and the proximity to retail and medical are the driving factors for building this project.”

The project is already in the concept design phase and will likely break ground early 2019. It could open the second half of 2020 at the earliest.
