Tumwater offers grants for low income housing
A request for grant proposals has been issued by the City of Tumwater and Thurston County. The available grants, which are offered through the Community Development Block Grant Program, are for capital projects and services that help provide affordable housing in Tumwater.
The Community Development Block Grant Program is funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and supports low-income housing developments and other beneficial programs for low and middle-income residents.
Tumwater has announced that there is approximately $671,000 available in funding for low-income housing projects. The available money for public services helping low-income Tumwater residents is about $160,000. Those services might include training, healthcare, serving the homeless, serving those struggling with drug and alcohol addictions and educational programs.
“The Community Development Block Grant program provides communities like ours with resources to address a wide range of community development needs,” Tumwater Mayor Pete Kmet stated. “This funding does not stay in city hall – it is awarded to local businesses, service providers, and organizations in Tumwater that provide affordable housing or services to low-income families. This is a key part of our efforts in Tumwater to provide affordable housing options for low-income families, and serve the people who live in them.”
Grant applications are due April 6, 2018, at noon.
