Homeownership rate falls

The homeownership rate in the United States fell from 66.9 percent during the third quarter of 2010 to 66.3 percent in Q3 2011, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.The homeowner vacancy rate was 2.3 percent during the fourth quarter 2011, 4 points lower than Q4 2010. The rental vacancy rate in the fourth quarter of 2011 was 9.4 percent, unchanged from a year earlier.
