Gonter elected State Fair president
Lakewood's Gary F. Gonter has been elected the 2014 President of the Washington State Fair in Puyallup by the fair's board of directors.
Other elected officers include: Michael D. Nelson, vice president; David R. Campbell, secretary; W. David Schodde, treasurer; and Kent R. Hojem, CEO.
As president, Gonter’s responsibilities will include overseeing events at the Washington State Fair Events Center throughout the year, including the Spring Fair, April 10-13, and the Washington State Fair, Sept. 5-21, 2014. In addition to those responsibilities, he is in charge of grandstand entertainment at the Washington State Fair, working closely with the Fair’s booking agent in hiring artists. He is also active on the Food & Beverage committee, oversees the its beverage portion.
Gonter was born in Tacoma and raised on a hop farm in the Puyallup Valley. He received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Puget Sound, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He is also president of Bandstand Music, Inc., a commercial sound, video, lighting and staging company.Edit Module
