Jan 15, 2018 - 12:14 PM

Today marks the grand opening of Boeing’s much-anticipated Workforce Readiness Center in Auburn, the first new building at the aerospace titan’s Auburn site in 25 years.

The facility will be dedicated primarily to furthering the skills of the company’s 5,300 Auburn employees. It features a robotic labs, apprentice programs in conjunction with the International Association of Machinists, and training for Craft College, a Boeing program designed to train employees supporting a range of Boeing sites company-wide.

The center represents “an exciting new chapter for the company in Auburn, wrote Julia Jordan, president and CEO of the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce, in a statement celebrating today’s grand opening.

“Along with Boeing’s planned Operations Readiness Center, the Workforce Readiness Center

maintains our community’s status as a critical hub in the supply chain,” she said. “State-of-the-art training and equipment will empower workers to build and grow the skills and knowledge needed to compete in the 21st century aerospace market.”

Boeing originally broke ground on the $16.7 million facility in December of 2016, replacing a previous building on the site.
