More moving to Washington, says relocation company
According to one of the nation’s leading movers, Washington continues to be a hot destination.
The state ranked second in the 2017 Atlas Van Lines Migration Patterns study, which annually tracks moving patterns as reflected in moves handled by the national relocation company.
Sixty-two and half percent of moves involving Washington have people headed into the state, trailing only — curiously — Idaho, which tops the nation at 65.1 percent inbound. Idaho is the study’s inbound leader for a second straight year.
On the other end of the spectrum is Illinois, which saw 62.4 percent of moves outbound, Atlas says.
Atlas’ data also showed a decrease in moves in 2017. In 2017, the total number of interstate and cross-border moves reached 72,986, down from 75,427 in 2016. With the inclusion of data from Atlas Van Lines Canada, sister company of Atlas Van Lines, a total of 81,693 household moves occurred throughout North America in 2017.
