JBLM hosts screening for Air Mobility Command members
Eight members of the 446th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, the state's only Air Force Reserve flying unit, were honored during a red-carpet screening of the 3-D IMAX film "Rescue" at the Tacoma Galaxy Theaters last night.

The movie, which features on-the-job training and rescue scenes for each of these squadron members and others, traces the their emergency preparation routines in air, land and sea drills - and how they came into play to serve and save victims of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

Six members of the squadron were on hand to greet the crowd of about 200 military families and supporters. AES reserves from Joint Base Lewis-McChord were among the first on the scene in Haiti last year.

"We're extremely proud of these folks, who are part of the larger community of Air Force Reserve Command whose actions on a daily basis help move up to 20,000 people a year out of harm's way from floods, earthquakes and humanitarian atrocities," said Col. Lane Seaholm, 446th Airlift Wing vice commander.

The 446th AES flies C-17 Globemasters worldwide in support of military and humanitarian operations. The team, whose members hold civilian jobs as firefighters, construction workers, emergency room nurses and other critical community-service positions around the South Sound, work together to provide aeromedical evacuation and airborne medical care for wounded forces and victims of natural and war-borne disasters.

"These are special people in their own right," Seaholm said. "They're special because they're active in the military community, and then they go and make the balance between home, and school, and work life. They live in more than one world."

For their efforts, the 446th received the 2010 Air Force Meritorious Unit Award. Click here for more information.
