Nat’l accreditation for downtown Kent

Jul 5, 2016 - 01:26 PM

The long-standing Kent Downtown Partnership is now designated an accredited Main Street America program, according to a news release from its Executive Director Barbara Smith.

This is acknowledgment of the alignment between KDP programs and the national organization focused on preservation-based economic development and community revitalization.

“We are experiencing an exciting era for America’s cities and towns, with a growing recognition of the importance of strong local enterprise, distinctive character, engaged residents, and sense of place,” says Patrice Frey, president & CEO of the National Main Street Center.  “These are things that Main Street America programs have been working to protect and advance for years.”

Kent Downtown Partnership is also proud of the growth it has seen in the last two years — two new apartment buildings right in the core of the city with a Sounder Train station within walking distance. Several new businesses who have also moved into downtown Kent.
