New UPS leader ‘on the job’
Though the campus at University of Puget Sound may mostly empty today, with summer break on and the Friday before a three-day holiday weekend, the school’s new president, Isiaah Crawford, will be roaming around to meet and greet.
This is his first day as the 14th president of the Tacoma-based higher education unit that began 128 years ago. Crawford previously was provost at Seattle University and was named in February to succeed President Ron Thomas at UPS when he retired.
After meeting with his direct staff to start the day, President Crawford set out to join a tour of campus with prospective students and their families. Other planned activities include an informal gathering at the student center, lunch with student government leaders and generally getting to know the campus.
According to a statement from the school, Crawford places a high priority on getting to know students, faculty, staff, alums and members of the Tacoma community. Photographs from his first day will be posted at the UPS website.
