MultiCare: Largest local health system in state
As reported in last Friday’s Daily Biz Briefs, Tacoma’s MultiCare Health Systems has completed its acquisition of Spokane assets from Community Health Systems – a publicly-traded, for-profit hospital group.
Deaconess Hospital with 388 beds in Spokane, along with 123-bed Valley Hospital in Spokane Valley and the multi-specialty Rockwood Clinic now report to MultiCare’s CEO, Bill Robertson.
“We’re excited to add this successful health system to our growing network that gives our communities more ways to get the medical attention they need,” says Robertson. “This acquisition will help the organization advance toward our vision of becoming the Pacific Northwest’s highest value system of health.”
The expansion adds 3,600 employees to MultiCare, making it the largest community-based, locally governed health care system in the state of Washington. Following the acquisition, Rockwood Health System converts to a not-for-profit status.
Laureen Driscoll, currently vice president of operations for MultiCare Health System, was also named president of Deaconess Hospital effective July 1. She will partner closely with Dr. David O’Brien, who was hired to fill a new position in Spokane as MultiCare’s senior vice president & CEO, East Region.
