Primary election votes lagging
Withjust one week remaining until the deadline, only 8.1 percent of Washington voters have returned their Primary Election ballots to county officials.
This off-year election will narrow down multiple candidates to the top two vote-getters in many municipal and local special district elections.
In Pierce County, where three candidates are vying to make Tacoma's mayoral contest in November, the return rate is even lower – just 6.1 percent or 30,415 votes cast. Thurston County, with city council seats and other positions up for decision, has seen 10.2 percent of votes received by 8 a.m. this morning.
To be included in the decision-making, voters must turn in their marked ballots to collection boxes or postmarked by next Tuesday, August 1st.
