Systems Consulting part of team that will build $2 billion DIA project

Jun 16, 2010 - 01:08 PM
Systems Consulting LLC of Tacoma is part of a consortium that has received the single largest FasTracks contract from Denver's Regional Transportation District to build and operate commuter rail lines to Denver International Airport, Arvada-Wheat Ridge and south Westminster.

Denver Transit Partners' proposal was $300 million lower than RTD's budget estimate and it plans to open the line to DIA by January 2016, which is 11 months ahead of RTD's deadline.
Denver Transit Partners' proposal along with RTD's project costs total $2.085 billion, compared with RTD's budget estimate of $2.385 billion. The RTD "best-value" evaluation rated it both the higher technical proposal and the lower cost proposal of the two bidding teams.

Gretchen Adams, president of Systems Consulting Inc., said that although the process was long, she is excited and feels privileged that her company will be involved with the project.

"We just found out last night," she said. "It's still kind of a fog. The impact it will have on a small company like ours is huge."

Systems Consulting, which also is a member of the team that won the bid for the Sound Transit North Link project, will provide quality oversight of the 30-year design, build and operate project. Adams said some work can be done in Tacoma, but that the company will have to send some people to Colorado, and will be hiring both locally and in Denver.

Adams said being involved in the bid was "a huge risk."

"It was outside what we typically propose on," she said. "Typically we are local, from Olympia to Everett. This was the first time we went outside the state."

Other members of Denver Transit Partners include Fluor Enterprises Inc., Macquarie Capital Group Ltd., Ames Construction, Balfour Beatty Rail Inc., Alternate Concepts Inc. and HDR.
