More Amazon in Sumner

The north Sumner area continues to add new industrial warehouse tenants, including word today that Amazon will be opening a second fulfillment center there.
A company source at the Seattle headquarters of Amazon has confirmed the planned opening of a second fulfillment distribution center in the Sumner. This new operation will pick, pack and ship larger-sized customer orders.
The 401,076 sq. ft. Rainier building in Sumner Corporate Park is ready for tenant installations and to be occupied, after its spec construction by Michelson Commercial Realty and Development LLC and Knapp Development, the team that created the 148-acre industrial park adjacent to rail lines close to SR-167 freeway.
Amazon recently held hiring events around the South Sound, without specifying new job locations beyond Sumner or Kent. This new operation facing 140th Ave. E, will have several hundred full-time jobs, and be close to its existing fulfillment center, which opened in mid-2011.
The company typically issues its public announcements on new employment center locations on a national basis and has not yet mentioned this additional Sumner project. Earlier this week, Amazon’s stock price on Wall Street’s trading floors surpassed $1,000 per share, making it one of just five companies at that level.
Before any new information release, Amazon reported having 40,000 employees in Washington state, including the corporate headquarters and at fulfillment centers in DuPont and Kent, as well as Bellevue and the Tri-Cities. The rapidly-expanding corporate giant reports about 300,000 jobs worldwide, up by about one-third since 2008.
