Oly performance center to close for repairs

Jun 9, 2017 - 01:51 PM

Washington Center for the Performing Arts will be closing next month for repairs and not reopening until mid-September, as a City of Olympia-hired contractor upgrades its heating and cooling system.

“The work planned for this summer will result in a fully operational system that can be operated easily and efficiently,” said Fran Eide, city engineer. The historic structure is owned by Olympia city government and operated by the non-profit Washington Center for the Performing Arts.

A portion of the HVAC system responsible for patron comfort failed last summer, but Eide is expecting this to be a smooth repair project, primarily within the building. The City is promising there will not be any long-term street or parking closures.

While the performance halls and lobby areas will be closed to the public, the Center’s Box Office will continue to operate normal hours.
