Premera to offer health plans in Grays Harbor

Jun 19, 2017 - 05:09 PM

After the state’s initial roster of 2018 individual insurers didn’t include options in Grays Harbor County, Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has announced that one provider has changed course.

“Following repeated discussions, I am pleased that Premera Blue Cross has decided to offer two individual health plans to consumers in Grays Harbor County in 2018. This is welcome news for that community.

“The plans will be offered through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, where consumers who qualify can get subsidies to help pay their premiums.

One other county — Klickitat — remains without proposed plans for next year. Kreidler said that, upon learning that Grays Harbor and Klickitat counties had no 2018 insurance options, his office immediately contacted insurers to urge them to reconsider.

“I continue to work diligently with insurers to offer health insurance options for consumers in Klickitat County,” he said. “My office is doing all it can to get this concern resolved as quickly as possible. I remain optimistic that my discussions with insurers will prove successful for Klickitat County.

“We share a concern about consumers having no options,” he added. “Every county should be covered.”
