'World's largest Rubber Duckie' was the only vessel observed during today's opening Parade of Sail for the weekend Festival of Sail. With better weather Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it will be a much bigger event.

Despite the rain, more than 20 iconic sailing ships will be pulling into Tacoma’s Commencement Bay today and tomorrow, kicking off a full weekend of “Festival of Sail” activities.

With more favorable weather forecasts tomorrow through Sunday, organizers of this civic event anticipate ticket-buying crowds will fill the area alongside Thea Foss Waterway near downtown to view – and visit – the classic and replica vessels and enjoy trips on the water with the sailing crews.

A full line-up of entertainment and food vendors is also in place, and you can see more details at the Festival of Sail website. There is a wide range of ticket prices for admission, sailings and other special area tours.
