‘Warriors’ shooting under the sun
Soldiers of 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord are conducting a live fire training exercise through next Wednesday at Yakima Training Center to prepare soldiers for the rigors of sustained land combat.
While South Sound areas will see temperatures nudging the 90s this weekend, units in the barren hills near Yakima will probably see 10 degrees higher.
The exercise is preparing members of 2-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team for their National Training Center rotation at Fort Irwin, California, which will take place later this year. Earlier sessions hosted units from Washington Army National Guard, as their mission shifts from tanks to Striker vehicles.
The current exercise includes training on small arms ranges, vehicle-mounted weapons ranges, military operations in urban terrain scenarios, trench clearing operations and Apache gunnery ranges.
This is part of the largest exercise the iconic 7th Infantry Division has conducted since its reactivation at JBLM in 2012.
