What’s dollar value of ‘Arts/Culture’?

Jun 20, 2017 - 04:40 PM

A national consulting organization has calculated that the nonprofit arts and culture sector is a significant industry for greater Tacoma’s marketplace.

Americans for the Arts in its most recent Prosperity 5 study finds that $137.2 million in economic activity is generated from spending by arts and culture organizations ($74.6 million) and event-related spending ($62.6 million) by their audiences.

This sector supports 3,656 full-time equivalent jobs, generates $86 million in household incomes, and delivers $14 million in local and state government revenues.

“Tacoma’s nonprofit arts and cultural organizations are integral to our commercial ecosystem,” said City of Tacoma Arts Administrator Amy McBride. “They directly support a wide array of occupations spanning many industries.”

“This study demonstrates that the arts are an economic and employment powerhouse both locally and across the nation,” said Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts.
