PeaceHealth and CHI suspend merge talks

PeaceHealth and Catholic Health Initiatives have suspended discussions to create a unified, integrated regional health system in the Pacific Northwest. Locally, this would have included Franciscan Health System and its services at  St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw, St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, and all Franciscan Medical Group clinics and services in King, Kitsap and Pierce counties. The two health systems signed a nonbinding agreement in mid-August to create an innovative partnership that would allow both organizations to strengthen and extend their healing ministries. Ecology considers Gig Harbor shoreline

The Washington Department of Ecology is seeking public comment on Gig Harbor’s recently updated shoreline master program. The proposed shoreline master program combines local plans for future development and preservation with new development ordinances and related permitting requirements. It will guide construction and development along approximately six miles of city shoreline. GIVINGtrax, a new Tacoma business featured in this week’s Business Examiner edition, was named today one of nine start-ups to join 9Mile Labs, an accelerator that focuses on new B2B companies. Like other accelerators, 9Mile Labs invests $20,000 in each of its tenants, taking a four to eight percent stake in the companies. Boeing announced that a comprehensive set of improvements that will add several layers of additional safety features to the lithium-ion batteries on 787 commercial jetliners are in production and could be ready for initial installation within the next few weeks. Three South Sound stores tops in Lottery wins

The luckiest Lottery stores in the state include sites in Tacoma, Lacey and Lakewood. According to the Washington's Lottery, among the top 10 stores with the most "big wins" was Albertson’s, at 8611 Steilacoom Boulevard Southwest in Lakewood, with 13 tickets that hit $1,000 or more. The Fred Meyer store at 7250 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma had 12 "big wins," while the Safeway at 4700 Yelm Highway Southeast in Lacey had 11. “We’re pleased to offer the Lottery games to our customers,” said Fred Meyer spokeswoman Amanda Ip. “We’re thrilled to be on the list!” The "Luckiest Store" in the Puget Sound region was the Fred Meyer at 365 Renton Center Way SW in Renton, with 15 wins.

Fed Way bar owner gets 'hard time'

A Milton man who owned a Federal Way bar where Korean National women were promoted for prostitution was sentenced today to 72 months in prison and five years of supervised release, announced U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.
