Tacoma Goodwill acquires 'Suited for Success' program

Mar 2, 2016 - 04:44 PM

In Pierce County, Catholic Community Services’ “Suited for Success” program is transferring to Goodwill.

The official reasoning is that the move will make the program “more available to the unemployed in Pierce County,” by aligning it with other Goodwill job service programs. And, on the flip side, it will allow Catholic Community Service to place more resources into housing services for families experiencing homelessness. (According to a press release, Suited for Success will still be offered to clients at Catholic Community Service.)

“A variety of job training program graduates in numerous career fields will be able to take advantage of Suited for Success, that teaches proper attire for job interviews and employment, then provides appropriate clothing tailored to the participant,” a press release stated. “Alignment with Goodwill’s large store allows maximum access to clothing inventory for enrolled job seekers.”

It seems like a good match, too. Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region estimates that it will help 10,000 people with education, job training and placement in 2016, and it will be able to use its stock of clothing to supply the Suited for Success program.

The program will be located at Goodwill’s retail training site at 1450 East 72nd Street in Tacoma.
