National concrete manufacturer Oldcastle, which is the North American arm of the Ireland-based company CRH plc, is setting up shop in Frederickson.

The company broke ground on its new 28-acre site on Wednesday, at the corner of 192nd Street East and 38th Avenue East. The company specializes in concrete masonry, paving, lawn and garden products, and its a supplier of Lowe's. (Those stepping stones your mother likes so much? Oldcastle.)

Denise Dyer, director of Pierce County Economic Development Department, said it was a match made in heaven for Frederickson.

"It fits in perfectly," she said. "We’ve got a number of really nice building products companies out there, it's located in an area in which we focus for manufacturing, so they’re a perfect fit."

When completed, the plant will comprise 55,000 square feet and the office will take up 2,000 square feet. The company expects to hire 75 people and to begin operations in early 2017.‚Äč
