Hearing ‘It can’t happen’ is motivating
Shantel Jones came to a local small business – Tacoma Propeller and Kruger & Sons Marine Propeller Specialists – at a time when, her nominator for Financial Executive of the Year says, the companies needed financial leadership.
That she fulfilled that need is evident over the past six years that followed. But, “nothing is ever easy. There are always obstacles in business,” Jones explains in her answers for the recognition program's judging panel. “You have to look past the negativity and find a way to be a positive influence on the financial, as well as the success of business relationships.”
This wife and mother of two, who also cares for her grandfather, decided at the age of 30 to go to college full-time, while working five days a week to support the family. Within four years, she had earned both her AA and bachelor’s degrees in business and accounting.
The company’s attorney in his nomination notes that “Shantel met the need head-on and excelled beyond expectations, leading the company in making a great turn-around.
You can meet Shantel Jones and the other 13 finalists for South Sound Financial Executives of the Year on Wednesday, April 26, for a luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Historic 1625 Tacoma Place. Tickets are available here.
