Ramp construction for convention center hotel to begin

Mar 22, 2017 - 05:28 PM

Work to construct a ramp from Commerce Street into the parking garage under the Greater Tacoma Convention Center is now set to begin on March 27.

The construction will also include additional dock space adjacent to the existing docks on Market Street.  Sidewalks in the vicinity of the new Convention Center A garage entrance on Commerce Street will be closed beginning March 27 to enable building, and a fence will be placed to secure the development site on April 20 blocking access to the surface lots and the Carlton parking structure at South 17th and Commerce streets.

Heavy construction equipment will be stationed at the development site during that time in preparation for construction of the building.

Work on the ramp had originally been slated for December 2016 before being pushed to January. The Convention Center will continue to host events during construction
