Woman's fake injury claim results in fraud charge

Mar 23, 2017 - 05:47 PM

A Puyallup woman’s fake injury claim resulted in a felony fraud charge to which she pleaded not guilty yesterday in King County Superior Court.

Satrauna Turk, 55, is charged with one count of filing a fraudulent insurance claim. She was charged on March 6 after an investigation that concluded Turk submitted falsified medical bills totaling more than $12,600 for herself and her three children to Progressive Insurance.

Turk’s nephew was the driver in a collision on Oct. 26, 2014. He told his insurer, Progressive, that Turk and her three children were in the car with him during the collision. Turk falsified bills from Valley Medical Center for herself and her three children, showing charges of more than $12,600 that were paid with a credit card. Progressive settled with Turk for $2,180. Later, investigators verified with the hospital that the medical bills were fake, and that Turk and her children were not seen at the hospital on the date of the collision.

She is scheduled to appear in court again on April 5.
