Tacoma seeks proposals for land near Dome
The City of Tacoma’s Community and Economic Development Department has issued a Request for Proposals for the purchase and development of a 10.6 acre plot of city-owned land near the Tacoma Dome.
The land will be used for “destination entertainment retail.” The minimum bid is listed at $8 million.
According to the city, the process will differ from typical bid solicitations that award property to the highest bidder. Instead, the city will take into account the offered purchasing price, the proposed future uses, the plan for cooperating to solve parking and circulation issues, and how those uses match up with the overall goals of the nearby communities and the city.
Zoning for the property is Downtown Mixed Use with a height limit of 100 feet. The 594 parking spaces currently located on the property have to be replaced within walking distance of the Tacoma Dome as a part of the development of the site.
The deadline to make a proposal is 11 a.m. on May 8, 2018. By approximately May 28, the city will select and notify the proposer with the highest ranking. Thereafter, the Tacoma City Council will meet to approve the sale of the property to the selected proposer.
