WSDOT hosting DBE Program proposal meeting

Mar 13, 2018 - 05:45 PM

An upcoming Washington State Department of Transportation meeting on Mar. 26 will inform business owners how to participate in and help shape proposed changes to the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.

WSDOT is gathering proposals to present to the U.S. Department of Transportation in order to amend the DBE program. The goal of the changes is for the DBE to be more inclusive of African American business owners seeking contracts with WSDOT.

In 2017, WSDOT released a report called the Disparity Study, which showed that African-American-owned businesses are used less for contracts than businesses owned by other minority groups.

The meeting is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mar. 26 at South Seattle College, Georgetown Campus, Room C110/111, in Seattle. A webinar of the meeting will also be available at 10 a.m. on Mar. 30. Email for more information. Written comments on the final draft of the proposal to USDOT will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Apr. 20.
